Noahic Covenant

When we read through the Old Testament, we see that there are Certain animals that God absolutely did not want the children of Israel eating, he calls them an abomination. Many think that since Yeshua came we have a new food menu. That’s the farthest thing from the truth when you actually analyze the scriptures. People think that these dietary instructions are only for the Jews once again that’s not what the gospel says. What God calls an abomination will always be an abomination and he does not change.

Malachi 3:6

“For I am the LORD, I change NOT”

We need to be aware that scripture expressly tells us that unclean animals are NOT FOOD.

Scripture NEVER calls unclean animals “Food”  It only calls biblically clean things food.

I don’t eat PIG for the same reason you don’t eat dog, horse, rats, cats, bats, or dead human flesh…

BECAUSE ITS NOT FOOD!

Deuteronomy 14:3

“Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.”

Job 14:4

“Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.”

Establishing his Covenant with Noah

Genesis 6:18–22

“But with thee will I establish my COVENANT; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.”

Genesis 7:2

“Of every CLEAN beast thou shalt take to thee by SEVENS, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not CLEAN by TWO, the male and his female.”

Genesis 7:8–9

“Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, there went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.”

Genesis 8:20

“And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every CLEAN beast, and of every CLEAN fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.”

When Noah and his family were back on dry land, Noah “took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar” ( Genesis 8:20 ). This suggests that these laws were known and practiced before the Flood—even from the earliest days of mankind. ( compare Genesis 4:4 , Abel’s acceptable offering ). Since there were no Jews or Israelites then—not even any Hebrews—these laws are obviously for all mankind.

The confusion starts here..

Genesis 9:3–4

“Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”

The key to this verse is “even as the green herbs.” In other words, God gives mankind the authority to eat flesh within the same parameters as he allows us to eat vegetation. Does God allow us to eat poisonous plants such as poison ivy, hemlock, deadly nightshade, etc? Of course not! Just as certain plants are harmful to us, so are certain meats.

Genesis 9:9–17

“And I, behold, I establish my COVENANT with you, and with your seed after you; and with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my COVENANT with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the COVENANT which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: and I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.”

Isaiah 66:3–4

“Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations. I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.”

Isaiah 65:3–5

“a people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick; which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat SWINE’s flesh, and broth of ABOMINABLE things is in their vessels; which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am HOLIER than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.”

Isaiah 66:15–17

“For, behold, the LORD will come with 🔥FIRE🔥, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many. They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating SWINE’s flesh, and the ABOMINATION, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.”

In biblically clean animals, the blood flowing in the vertebral artery joins with blood flowing in the front ( carotid ) artery.

This results in no pain during proper slaughter.

In animals that God forbids for consumption, the blood flows from the vertebral artery directly to the brain.

God designed many of the unclean animals for the specific purpose of disposing of the earth’s garbage. For instance, without feeling any ill effect, vultures can consume 59 times the amount of botulin, the neurotoxin that causes botulism, that it would take to kill a man. Pigs are scavengers that will eat anything, and if pork is not fully cooked to kill the Trichinella spiralis in it, it can destroy a person’s health or even kill him.

Even though people throughout the world eat unclean food and live, and even though we could probably do the same—and many of us once did—for Christians, it is more than a health matter. In the Bible, God never directly connects keeping the laws of Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 with health. In reality, it is a test commandment to see if we will obey God.

Peter’s Vision

Acts 10:9–28

“On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: and he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, and saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven. Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate, and called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there. While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them…

Verse 28

And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but ✨God hath shewed me that I should not call any MAN common or UNCLEAN✨.”

The dream was about People…

If unclean meats had been approved, would Peter have not understood this from what he had learned from Yeshua? He lived with his Savior for over three years. If anyone knew that the law of clean and unclean meats had been abolished by Yeshua’s sacrificial death, it would have been Peter, but at this point, a decade later, he is operating under no such notion.

Fourth, his reply to the Voice, is quite confident: “Not so, Lord!” This was a command that the apostle knew went against everything he knew about God’s law. Even though the Voice repeats the command twice more (verse 16), Peter never changes his mind!

Mark 7:18–23

“And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”

The word translated as “MEATS” is actually from the Greek word for “FOOD”, not necessarily animal flesh. The above quoted King James Version is the most literal translation of the Bible. Some more modern translations say it quite differently though:

G1033 – Meat / Food

βρῶμα

brōma

bro’-mah

From the base of G977; FOOD (literally or figuratively), especially (ceremonial) articles allowed or forbiden by the Jewish law: – meat, victuals.

RSV

since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.)

NIV

For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)

NLT

Food doesn’t go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.” (By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes.)

These samples of modern translations blatantly add this comment, even though nothing like it appears in the original Greek scriptures. How four simple Greek words referring to a bowel movement can be translated to “( By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes. )” is incomprehensible.

Note that the kind of food the apostles were eating is “bread,” not meat.

But if we look at the context we see he is referring to eating with unwashed hands, which goes against the Jewish customs.

Mark 7:1–8

“Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. And when they saw some of his disciples eat BREAD with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables. Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat BREAD with unwashen hands? He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, Teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.”

Matthew 15:18-20

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Colossians 2:16–17

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

Colossians 2:20–23

“Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (touch not; taste not; handle not; which all are to perish with the using😉 after the commandments and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.”

1 Timothy4:1–5

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: for it is sanctified by the

✨word of God✨and prayer.”

Does this mean that we should not refuse skunk, badger, bear, tiger, snakes, slugs, snails, vultures, rats, horses, eel, and oysters, as long as we give thanks for it?

Of course not!

Modifying elements to what this means: “. . . for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” Sanctify means “to set apart for a specific use or purpose.” The apostle is saying, then, that certain “creatures” are sanctified or set apart as human food—by what means?—by God’s Word, the Bible!

God reveals these “sanctified” meats to us in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14.

Paul adds prayer to the setting apart of these foods because we have Yeshua’s example of asking God to bless the food before eating ( see, for instance, Luke 9:16; 24:30 ). This further sets apart the food we are about to eat as approved and even enhanced by God, but in no way does it make unclean meat clean.

In summary, Paul is reiterating that 1) God has set certain foods apart for His people to eat; and 2) we should not be fooled by false teachers who claim either that anything and everything is good to eat or that certain biblically approved foods should not be eaten.

The “meats which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving” are the very definition of clean meats, not of all meats.

This is similar to the warning in Colossians 2:16-17, where Ascetics were looking down on converts for what they saw as immoral behaviour: eating meat and celebrating Biblical holidays and feasts. Paul wanted Christians to know that such things were okay; just because someone appears to be more pious it doesn’t mean that their beliefs are correct.

Romans 14:1–4

“Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.”

Romans 14:6

“He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.”

Romans 14:14

“I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.”

The word “Unclean” in Romans 14 is koinos in the Greek and means common, not unclean.

Unclean would be akathartos.

He’s talking about a manmade category called “common” which is not about God’s dietary laws.

Read Revelation 18:2 where there are still unclean animals in the NT.

Romans 14, may be the most difficult one because of the way it is translated in the KJV and in most other translations. As in the other difficult scriptures, the subject is not clean and unclean foods but eating meat versus vegetarianism (verse 2).

Paul says not to pass judgment on others for eating meat or for eating only vegetables (verse 3).

The question that confronted Paul was not that God’s people were suggesting that somehow unclean animals had now been made clean, but the belief of some that no meat—even meat that had been created to be eaten with thanksgiving—should be eaten at all.

The apostle points out that it would be wrong for the vegetarians to eat meat if they had doubts about it, as it would defile their consciences. He concludes, “For whatever is not of faith is sin.”

Verse 14 is a proof text used by the world to conclude that all meat is now fine to eat: “I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.” This is another verse that has been poorly translated to conform to preconceived notions.

The problem is with the word “unclean,” which does not appear in the Greek text. To mean “unclean,” Paul would have used akarthatos, but instead, the text reads koinos, which means “common,” “ordinary,” “defiled,” or “profane (as opposed to holy or consecrated).” Peter uses both “common” and “unclean” to describe meats in Acts 10:14, so there is obviously a difference between the terms.

We know that the Bible defines “unclean” meat in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14, but when is meat considered “common“? The only circumstance in which clean meats are common or defiled is when a clean animal dies naturally or is torn by beasts ( Leviticus 22:8 ) or when the blood has not been properly drained from the meat ( Leviticus 17:13-14; 3:17 ). Such animal flesh was called common because it could be given to strangers or aliens in Old Testament times if they wished to eat it ( Deuteronomy 14:21 ). Similarly, in Acts 15:20; 29, the apostles forbade the Gentiles to eat the meat of a strangled animal or meat that had not been drained of blood.

In the case of Romans 14:14, it is likely that “defiled” would be the best term, as the meat under discussion was probably that offered to idols then sold in the marketplace for public consumption. To paraphrase, then, the verse should read: “. . . there is nothing defiled of itself; but to him who considers anything to be defiled, to him it is defiled.”The meat was not defiled in fact, just in the minds of various church members, whom Paul had earlier called “weak” (verse 2). These “weak in the faith” Christians believed that, because the meat had been offered to a pagan idol, it had become spiritually defiled.

Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 8:4-7 that the demon behind the idol is nothing, for “there is no other God but one” (verse 4). Thus, there is no “spiritual” taint to the meat.

New Covenant will only be with the House of Israel and the House of Judah

Jeremiah 31:31–34

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: but this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel ( common wealth ); After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Ephesians 2:12–15

“that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the ✨covenants of promise✨, having no hope, and without God in the world: but now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;”

There are only two covenants made all throughout scripture where God attached a promise one was to Noah because of his obedience to Gods voice, for listening to his instructions, he even attached the rainbow to this promise as a reminder.

“For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great

herd of SWINE feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the SWINE, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.”

This region was the home turf of the Hellenistic Jews and their various temples. The business plan and economy was dependent on the flow of visitors or worshipers to the temple of Zeus. ( Isaiah 2:6 )

These Jewish Hellenists made various idols for sale working in wood, stone, or jewelry while others raised unclean animals for the temple sacrifice.

( Isaiah 2:8; Isaiah 44:9; Isaiah 44:19 )

The supreme god of all Hellenic theology was known as the “king of gods and man,” or Zeus Olympus ( Greek ) or Jupiter Capitolinus ( Roman ), and swine ( pigs ) were the required sacrifice on their altars in their temples. ( 1 Corinthians 8:1; Isaiah 2:20 )

Trichinella spiralis

A parasitic worm that can cause a food-borne disease called trichinellosis. Symptoms can include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, muscle soreness, headaches, eye swelling, chills, and extreme tiredness.

Taenia solium

Also known as the pork tapeworm, this parasite can cause two types of infections in humans: taeniasis and cysticercosis. Taeniasis is an intestinal infection caused by eating undercooked pork that contains parasite cysts that develop in the muscles of pigs that eat tapeworm eggs. These eggs can be found in the environment or in feces.

Isospora suis

This parasite causes neonatal coccidiosis in baby pigs, which can lead to yellowish or gray diarrhea and dehydration.

Florida man who liked undercooked bacon had tapeworm eggs in his brain

Person infected with worm parasites from eating raw pork

“…pigs don’t sweat…”
Pigs do not have functional sweat glands. Domestic pigs raised in large scale operations must be provided with some form of external cooling, such as water mist, wild pigs or small scale operations rely on mud wallows.

1.  A pig will eat anything: urine, feces, decaying flesh, maggots, their own babies, and even the cancerous growths of other pigs. Their meat does not go unaffected.

2.  Pigs have but one stomach to digest their food, and subsequently absorb the toxins in their foul diet in about 4 hours. A cow actually has 4 stomachs to process & cleanse their  food, helping to further filter their already cleaner diet over a much longer digestion period.

3.  Pigs have more “bio-similarity” to humans than do cows.  Hence, pig organs are less likely to be rejected by the human immune system, compared to organs from other animals. Though an advantage in surgical organ transplantation, this becomes a a big disadvantage when you consider the easy transfer of pork pathogens to humans.

4.  Bacteria which becomes resistant to the antibiotics given to pigs is being passed back to humans. For example, Staphylococcus Aureus became resistant to tetracyclines and methicillins given to pigs. Now, ST398, a antibiotic-resistant strain of the infection, can now be found in humans. This trend will likely and dangerously continue.

5.  Pigs carry over 30 diseases and 12 parasites, many of which are easily transferred to humans. Of particular note is the trichinae worm, which can instigate trichinosis in humans and all the resulting digestive disorders, gall bladder complications, rheumatism challenges, meningitis, and even multiple sclerosis symptoms.

6.  Pork has about twice the saturated fat as beef, packing on the calories, crowding out important nutrients from other healthy foods, and contributing to sludgy blood and increased cardiovascular risk.

7.  Consumption of fresh pork can cause not only deadly disease, but also a variety of acute reactions including inflammation of the appendix, gall bladder, stomach, & intestines.  It can also quickly cause eczema, carbuncles, & abscesses. Cooking helps, but whether or not there is a “safe temperature” to kill ALL the various bacteria & viruses in pork is still being debated.

Bonus Facts:

In ancient times, pigs were used as a sewer, kept just outside the city, and thrown all the human waste – which they would happily consume.

The eating of pork happens to be forbidden in both Judaism and Islam, because pigs do not “chew the cud.” Interestingly, thousands of years later, we would learn that this is a common process of digestion in vegetarian and “kosher” animals, which also helps to prevent toxin absorption into their blood.

A National Institute of Health report, published  in 1943, found 16.2% of the U.S. population of pigs to be infected with the trichinella. Incidence is fortunately lower today, but unfortunately primarily due to a vast array of drugs given to the pigs, a practice which we know has its own negatives.

Around 1348 AD, the “Black Death” (bubonic plague) killed at least 25 million people. Jews were not affected nearly as much as other people groups. This observation contributed to many people literally blaming the Jews for for poisoning them, while no doubt the simple sanitary laws that God prescribed for his people, including the avoidance of unclean meats, contributed to their much lower contraction rate of the disease.

Most people would never eat a dog, a vulture, a hyena, a rat, a raccoon, a horse, or other traditionally unclean meats; yet we readily consume pork because of the economic gain, and subsequent availability & constant marketing.

Pork will unfortunately continue to be pushed by the industry, and backed by the government – because it is such a money maker. And most people will continue to consume it, and blow off both biological science and the warnings against it that have been uttered for thousands and thousands of years.

Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 contain God’s commandment to Israel concerning clean and unclean meats. In these passages, either He lists specific animals that are clean or unclean or He provides us with instructions about how to determine if an animal is clean or unclean. For instance, He tells us specifically that the camel, the hyrax (rock badger), the hare, and the swine are unclean ( Leviticus 11:4-8 ), but regarding fish He instructs us to determine if a species possesses both fins and scales (verse 9).

Leviticus 11:1–47

“And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying,

These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.

Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is UNCLEAN unto you. And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. And the SWINE, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: they shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you…

  • Segmented bodies
  • Chitin exoskeletons
  • Compound eyes
  • Jointed legs
  • Band-gathered muscle fibers
  • Nocturnal activity
  • Omnivorous diets
  • Wide-ranging food consumption

…And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, and the vulture, and the kite after his kind; every raven after his kind; and the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind, and the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, and the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.

Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you. And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even. And whosoever beareth ought of the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. The carcases of every beast which divideth the hoof, and is not clovenfooted, nor cheweth the cud, are unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean. And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even. And he that beareth the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you. These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind, and the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole. These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even.

And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be cleansed. And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it. Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water cometh shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean. And every thing whereupon any part of their carcase falleth shall be unclean; whether it be oven, or ranges for pots, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you. Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which toucheth their carcase shall be unclean. And if any part of their carcase fall upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean. But if any water be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcase fall thereon, it shall be unclean unto you. And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that toucheth the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even. And he that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten. Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination. Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth: to make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.”
