The Hebrew Israelite movement originated at the end of the 19th century, when Frank Cherry and William Saunders Crowdy claimed to have received visions that African Americans are descendants of the Hebrews from the Bible. Cherry established the Church of the Living God, the Pillar Ground of Truth for All Nations, in 1886, and Crowdy founded the Church of God and Saints of Christ in 1896.

Congregations were set up from Kansas to New York City, by both African Americans and West Indian immigrants. In the mid-1980s, the number of Black Hebrews in the United States was between 25,000 and 40,000. Various sects of Hebrew Israelite groups have been criticized by academics for their theology and historical revisionism due to the lack of evidence supporting their claims. Some sects are considered black supremacist and antisemitic. According to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL): “Some, but not all, ( Hebrew Israelites ) are outspoken anti-Semites and racists.” The Southern Poverty Law Center designates several extremist sects as hate groups which support racial segregation, Holocaust denial, homophobia, and race war. The SPLC refers to these extremist groups as “Radical Hebrew Israelites” to distinguish between “extremist and non-extremist sects” and because not all Hebrew Israelites are black.

Some Black Hebrew Israelites teach, in God’s eternal Kingdom, Jewish people and white nations will serve as slaves to the Black Hebrew Israelites. One Black Israelite, General Mayakaahla Ka, stated:

 “Every white person who doesn’t get killed by Christ when he returns is going into slavery!”

Crowdy settled in Guthrie, Oklahoma after his retirement from the railroad. He became a deacon in the local Baptist Church and an active member of the Prince Hall Freemasons.

In 1893, Crowdy’s behaviour became “strange”; for example, he was not always aware of people talking to him “but would sit staring for long periods of time.” He claimed to have had several visions in which he was told “that Black people were descendants of the twelve lost tribes of Israel.” He proceeded to create the Church of God and Saints of Christ and is regarded as a founder of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement. In these early days he was arrested 22 times.

Cherry taught that God, Yeshua, Adam, and Eve were Black.

Little is known about Cherry’s early and adult life, other than that he was born in the Southern United States. He did not go to school but educated himself in both Hebrew and Yiddish and worked as a sailor, during which he claims to have been declared a prophet. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and member of the Big Brothers organization.

Cherry claimed to have had a vision that African Americans are the descendants of the ancient Israelites, during his time abroad. He then established and led a congregation in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1886, where he preached that white people were inherently evil and hated by God. He would attempt to spread this belief in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he established the Church of God in 1915. Tenets of his group, known as the Church of the Living God, the Pillar Ground of Truth for All Nations, were based on black nationalist rhetoric of the time and he himself was a supporter of Marcus Garvey. Cherry also espoused antisemitism, claimed that the earth is square, and professed that Yeshua would return in the year 2000 to start a race war.

In the 1920s another Black Hebrew congregation was set up in Harlem by Wentworth Arthur Matthew, called the “Commandment Keepers of the Living God.” Selecting elements of Judaism and adopting. In 1930 he moved the congregation to Brooklyn, where he later founded the Israelite Rabbinical Seminary, where Black Hebrew rabbis have been educated / ordained.

Also called “Eber Benyamin”, was a former member of the Commandment Keepers and started “The Israelite School”.

Ahrayah and Mashah

Claims to be the reincarnation of David and John the Baptist.

The scriptures have long been subject to translation and interpretation. However, the process of translation is not without its challenges and consequences. One significant challenge arises from the linguistic differences between ancient Greek and modern English. This issue is particularly evident in translating two ancient Greek words: “Ekklēsia” and “ Sunagógé.”

The term “Ekklēsia,” which is often understood to mean “church.” However, this interpretation is not entirely accurate. In ancient Greek, “Ekklēsia” and “Sunagógé” were both used to describe gatherings or assemblies.

The term synagogue is of Greek origin ( synagein, “to bring together” ) and means “a place of assembly.”

Ecclesia, Greek Ekklēsia, ( “gathering of those summoned” ), in ancient Greece, assembly of citizens in a city-state. Its roots lay in the Homeric agora, the meeting of the people.

In James 2:2, for example, the Greek word “Sunagógé” is translated as “assembly,” referring not to a Jewish synagogue but to a church gathering. Therefore, these two words did not carry the modern religious connotations we associate with them today (‘Ekklēsia’ to mean a Christian church and ‘Sunagógé’ to mean a Jewish synagogue). Instead, they referred to any type of assembly or gathering, regardless of religious affiliation or context.

Most translations use the term “synagogue” even though the verse specifies that those referred to are not Jews. For the sake of comparison, the New American Bible version translated “the ASSEMBLY of Satan” (instead of “synagogue”), recognizing its real meaning.

Deuteronomy 5:8–10

2 Kings17:6

“In the ninth year of HOSHEA the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.”

Hoshea was the last king of the northern Kingdom of Israel, ruling for nine years before being defeated and deposed by the king of Assyria, Shalmaneser.

“And the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king ZEDEKIAH. And on the ninth day of the fourth month the famine prevailed in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land. “And Jehovah hath brought thee back to Egypt with ships, by a way of which I said to thee, Thou dost not add any more to see it, and ye have sold yourselves there to thine enemies, for men-servants and for maid-servants, and there is nobuyer.’

Deuteronomy 28:68

“And the LORD shall bring thee into EGYPT AGAIN with SHIPS, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and NO MAN shall BUY YOU.”

First off it says again. Meaning they have already been there once.

After the fall of Jerusalem many Jews were literally shipped to Egypt as slaves. Which fulfills the prophecy in its historical context.

You can’t say this isn’t physical Egypt even though contextually they just left literal Egypt and in Chapter 17 we can see once again it’s speaking of literal Egypt.

Deuteronomy 17:16

“But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to EGYPT, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.”

Then it says “but NO ONE will buy you” during the transatlantic slave trade they were a high commodity. Not being bought was not a problem because of their high demand.

First off if you sold yourself you wouldn’t even be a slave by definition you’d be an indentured servant.

The slaves of the transatlantic slave trade did not sell themselves they were horribly kidnapped against their will. That’s why we called the Africans “Slaves”.

Titus, and to a lesser extent Hadrian, shipped Jews to Egypt. After the First Jewish-Roman War, Titus sent many Jewish captives, including those over 17 years old, to work in the Egyptian mines. Hadrian’s actions during the Bar Kokhba revolt also involved mass enslavement and displacement, and while there’s no specific record of him sending Jews to Egypt, the broader Roman policy under both emperors led to many Jews being sent to various locations, including Egypt. 

The definition of slavery is the act of owning another human being as property. Do you know how many times that has occurred in history. The Greeks were enslaved by the Romans, the spanish, English and Scandinavians were enslaved by the Arabs, The Koreans were enslaved by the Japanese and the native Americans owned slaves of other Native American tribes before European contact. How do you know the verse isn’t referring to those tribes as well.

Deuteronomy 28:52

“And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced WALLS come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.”

THIS was fulfilled in 132–136 AD in the Bar Kokhba revolt. This was not fulfilled in Africa.

Genesis 15:13

“And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not their’s, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them 

FOUR HUNDRED YEARS;”

The prophecy was fulfilled with the specific historical event of Israel’s slavery in Egypt. Exodus 12:40-41 specifies the time, stating that the Israelites’ sojourn in Egypt lasted 430 years, an extension of the 400 years prophesied.

Famine was so severe during the Babylonian siege that “compassionate women” boiled and ate their own children. This catastrophic act, which fulfilled prophecies in verses like Deuteronomy 28:53. No such thing ever happened during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. This story was covered confirmed in book six of the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus’s The Jewish War.

Deuteronomy 28:63

“so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.”

Contextually this is speaking of the land of Israel when they were about to enter, they were not being plugged out of Africa.

“Lashawan Qadash” is a re-creation of the Hebrew phrase lashon qodesh, meaning “Holy Tongue” or “HOLY LANGUAGE”. It is used by some groups, particularly within Black Hebrew Israelite communities, to describe their unique pronunciation and reconstruction of ancient Hebrew. This pronunciation claims that modern Hebrew is influenced by other languages and that their version is the “Original,” a claim not supported by NOT ONE person in Hebrew scholarship. 

They think that modern Hebrew is from Yiddish which it is definitely not.. They won’t say Shalom they say Shalawam, etc…

Hebrew is a language. “Proto Hebrew” or “Phoenician” is a font, a script. They switched from one script, phoenician, to imperial Aramaic. That doesnt change the language. Unfortunately, they dont know the difference between a Language and a Script.

A language is a system of spoken communication, while a script is the set of symbols used to write it down. For example, English is a language, and the Roman alphabet is its script. Many languages can be written with the same script, and some languages can be written using multiple scripts, like Punjabi being written in Gurmukhī, Shāhmukhī, and Devanagari scripts. 

Lashawan Qwadash violates every grammatical, morphological and phonetic principle of every Semitic language recorded in any recognized grammatical text and lexicon because it is a complete myth created by a Hebrew Israelite who did not really know Hebrew.

Yahawashi is no more a Hebrew name than Toyota is a German car brand, and Shalawam is no more a Hebrew word than shazam.

Matthew 27:46

The Gospel provides evidence against Lashawan Qadash.

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

Psalm 22:1

“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?”

The Greek transliteration captures the pronunciation. Grammatically speaking, the phrase is perfect Hebrew. It is no different from the opening line of Psalm 22, save for the fact that it employs the Aramaic root, instead of the Hebrew root. 

Note that from this we can see that ( Aleph Lamet Yod ) for “Eli”  is pronounced as such and not “Ahlaya”.

Note that the final character (Yode) is pronounced ‘ee’ not ‘ya’. Thus, in the first century, Hebrew characters had multiple vocalizations. Vocalizations which proponents of Lashawan Qadash claim are incorrect. Most importantly, this shows that Yeshua did not speak this fictitious form known as Lashawan Qadash.

2 Corinthians11:4

“For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

MIDDLE WALL of PARTITION

A low wall separated the Gentile Court from the Temple enclosure itself. This wall was called, ”Soreq”, in Hebrew, and had thirteen openings in it to allow Jews only to enter from the Gentile Court into the four other courts. No Gentile was permitted past this dividing wall.

Acts 13:1

“Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called NIGER, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.”

“Simeon who was called Niger.” Not much is known about Simeon. The text indicates that he was called NIGER. This is probably an indication of his complexion since Niger, in Latin, means black; or it is a reference to his geographical origins. The term itself is found nowhere else in the NT an is even rare in extra-biblical literature. None the less, the point seems to be that Simeon was ethnically or geographically different from the rest of the leaders.

The fact that they call him by this title, let us know that it was not common in the church, but there was a diversity of people and ethnic groups.

Acts 8 describes how Phillip introduced the Ethiopian eunuch to Yeshua. He was treasurer in the government of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. In the Greek, the word Ethiopia means burnt face. In the Old Testament Hebrew, the word is translated Cush, meaning black. Biblical Ethiopia, therefore, has more to do with melanin than a land with borders. Jeremiah 13:23 would testify to this: “Can the leopard change its spots or the Ethiopian his skin?” Perhaps the most significant Scripture pertaining to the Ethiopian is found in Amos 9.

According to biblical scholars, Job is considered to be an Edomite, as the text states he lived in the “Land of Uz,” which is geographically situated within the territory of Edom, and his friends in the book are also identified as Edomites.

“IDIMAEAN” is the Greek form of “EDOMINITE” and refers to the same people, who were descendants of Esau.

Agrippa, had Edomite (Idumaean) descent. The dynasty’s roots trace back to Herod the Great, whose family was of Idumaean origin and had converted to Judaism.

“Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also ALL that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.”

Paul was not only praying to God for Agrippa to convert, but everyone present which would have been a multitude of ethnicities predominantly Edomites. He ends it by saying everything except for the chains that he is bound by.. but Hebrew Israelites say they will be enslaving all white people dashing their children into pieces and killing their wives. Quite the opposite of what Paul was preaching.

The One West “Hebrew Israelite” camp GMS ( GreatMillStone Israelites ) in Atlanta has a video titled “The Chinese are the Biblical Moabites.” One comment mirrors the video’s thesis: 

“they are Moab meaning ‘from the father,’ they are the fruit of incest between Lot and his daughter, hence the fact they have Mongoloid Down Syndrome on their faces, yellow skin, short, etc., as diagnosed by Dr. John Langdon Down.”14 This absurd sentiment — that Chinese people look deformed because they are ultimately a product of incestuous relations between Lot and his daughters ( Genesis 19:30–38 ) — is quite common among the 1West camps.

Nehemiah 13:1–2

If you’ve ever come across BHI you’ll notice the signs they carry one of them has a picture of a black man with white hair and beard. They get this teaching from two sets of scriptures, one from the book of Revelation and the other from the book of Daniel.

It says: “His HEAD and his HAIRS were WHITE LIKE WOOL, WHITE AS SNOW” many miss his HEAD being the same color. Also it is not saying his head and face are wool. This is allegorical speech.

It says: “his EYES were AS a FLAME OF FIRE” I could make the same claim that the base of a flame is BLUE, but once again this is allegorical speech.

A young man appeared in Galilee preaching with humble unction, a new law in the Name of the God that had sent Him. Later, I wrote to Jesus requesting an interview with Him at the Praetorium. He came. When the Nazarene made His appearance I was having my morning walk and as I faced Him my feet seemed fastened with an iron hand to the marble pavement and I trembled in every limb as a guilty culprit, though he was calm. Enoch sees a white bull and a heifer (Adam and Eve) to whom two bulls were born, one black and the other red. The black bull gored the red one, killing it ( Cain and Abel ). The heifer came after the black bull but the first white bull quiets her and she gives him another white bull (Seth), along with many other bulls and black cows. The third bull (Seth) is white, a reference to the purity of the line of Seth.

Genesis 25:24–34

Once again, Jacob and Esau are twin brothers.

They realized this was a problem so started creating photos like this to make the narrative fit.

One of the most common Hebrew Israelite lies is that Isaac and Rebekah’s son Esau, also known as Edom, was White and that Whites today are his descendants, vilified as 

“White Edomite Devils.”

So, being “RED” means being White? Is this the logic?

In that case, King David must have been White as well, since he is also referred to as being “admoni, red ( see 1 Samuel 16:12; 17:42 ). 

But according to the Hebrew Israelites, David was Black. This presents a real problem.

So, based on this logic, Esau is White because he is described as ’Admoni, red, but David is Black, even though he is called ’Admoni, red. Who can possibly believe this and keep a straight face?

Outside 2819 Church in Atlanta, a confrontation erupted between a group of self-identified Hebrew Israelites and Lead Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell. In a now-viral video, the group approached the church property with bullhorns, signs, and aggressive chants, interrupting the worship service with accusations and racialized claims.

They also did a march at the church gathering at State Farm arena in Atlanta recently.

There is no genetic evidence that connects Black Hebrew Israelites in the Americas to the ancient Israelites.

DNA studies have shown that modern Jewish communities worldwide ( Including Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrahi Jews) have a shared genetic ancestry that traces back to the Middle East, with distinct genetic clusters that align with their self-reported heritage.

Genetic studies on the lineage of African Americans and other Black populations find their ancestry overwhelmingly in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is consistent with the history of the transatlantic slave trade.

They say that African’s are heathen and only African American’s are Gods chosen people even though they originated from the people they call heathen.

The Lemba tribe has strong connections to the Levites and other Jewish people, particularly through oral tradition and genetic evidence. While they are not a single “tribe” in the biblical sense, the Lemba community claims descent from Israelite migrants, and a priestly clan within the Lemba (the Buba clan) carries a Y-chromosome genetic marker common among Jewish priests ( Kohanim ). Genetic studies have confirmed a non-African, likely Jewish, connection through the paternal line. 

While many Lemba have a connection to the priestly line ( Kohanim ), the Lemba are not a single tribe of Levi but a community that claims to be descended from a portion of the ancient Israelites who migrated to Africa.

The Lemba left Israel and traveled first to Yemen. When persecution assailed them, these peaceful people moved on to Africa, making their way through the centuries into Tanzania, Mozambique and eventually Zimbabwe, Zambia and other southern African countries.

Acts 29:2 “For he had heard in Phoenicia that certain of the children of Israel, about the time of the Assyrian captivity, had escaped by sea to the isles afar off, ” as spoken by the prophet, and called by the Roman’s Britain.”
